Being in the moment is something that is often said and that a lot of people try to live by. In my opinion very few people really do and to some extent abuse the concept. It’s a difficult thing to wrap one’s head around so instead of trying to grasp this entire concept and school you on something which I don’t yet fully comprehend I’ll just focus on how you can use this concept to maximise the basic parts of your healthy lifestyle.
What’s the meaning?
I believe that being in the moment is realising the concept of time, and focusing on what is real, which is right now. This liberation gives the power of absolute presence, focus and thus perfection. We’ve all had moments where we’ve been so caught up in the present, and what we were doing that we completely lost track of time and space and were simply “being”, and enjoying the moment and what we were doing. This feeling, this way of escaping, or perhaps embracing, reality is what I believe to be being in the moment.
“Life lived for tomorrow will always be just a day away from being realised” Leo F. Buscaglia
However to use it in our everyday lives doesn’t mean that we need to have this magical feeling constantly, although it would be wonderful. Why? Because honestly I don’t know how to be in the moment constantly.
How do we use it?
We can, however, use the concept to make each day better. Through the power of focus, much like I talked about last week. Only this is on a much smaller scale. In stead of focusing on one thing every week I want you to focus on making whatever you’re doing right now as perfect as possible.
When you’re cooking a meal focus on making that meal as healthy and good as possible. Right now that meal is all that matters. When you’re in the gym focus on making this set the best set. Right now that set is everything!
“Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment” Oprah Winfrey
It’s not hard to just focus on one thing. It really isn’t difficult to prepare one good and healthy meal, nor is it difficult to bust out one good set in the gym. What separates us from the rest is that we do it continuously, but the reason we do that is because we just focus on the present.
