First of all I’d like to apologise for posting this a day late. I spent the last week with my family, cousin and some friends of ours in Fuerteventura. The resort we were staying at is called Playitas and is a new sports resort. In my opinion it’s one of the greatest concepts ever. I loved every minute of it, from the sun salutation I did in the morning to the Kara-T-Robics I did in the evening.
Spending all this time with other people and seeing what classes and sports different people participated in I learned that a lot of people don’t do the things they want to and which can benefit them. Not because they can’t physically do it but because they’re scared. What are they scared of you might ask? Their own greatness perhaps? No, sadly not in this case.
This is about people being scared and embarrassed about not being good at something or perhaps not succeeding at something the first time they try. Let me tell you something: The first time you walk into the gym you won’t be the biggest, sexiest person there. You won’t be the one to bench press the most weight and you won’t be the most respected person. When you attend a yoga class for the first time you won’t be very flexible, you won’t feel very calm and you won’t be the one the teacher tells the other students to look at.
However, you will be the person who had the guts to start, or try, and for that you deserve respect. If you keep on doing what you’ve started then after a while you will become good at it, and other new people will look up to you when they start and be inspired.
“Try and fail is the manner of losers; try and learn is the way of the strong”
Nobody is perfect from the beginning, people fail but they learn from their mistakes and try again. This is the natural process of learning and progressing.
Life is about doing, it’s about doing what you want to, regardless of the risks. So don’t be scared off by the thought of looking stupid, out of place or inexperienced. Anybody who’s ever succeeded in something has failed in that exact thing, and many others before. Realise that everybody starts somewhere and it’s up to you to have the guts to start, fail, learn and progress!
Thank you for reading.
